Special Prayers

Praying for SE1

Loving God, when terror came to our doorstep,
and stalked our streets
you were there with us
in the fear and agony.
Remain with us
and with all those caught up
in the horror of these events,
the injured and distressed
those who died
and all who seek your peace
which passes understanding.

A Prayer for Manchester

God of compassion,
you hear the cries of all who are in trouble or distress;
accept our prayers for those whose lives are affected by the bombing in Manchester.
We pray especially for those suddenly facing a future without a child, parent or loved one,
young ones who are in deep distress,
those who are injured, traumatized or awaiting news
strengthen them in their hour of need,
grant them perseverance and courage to face the future
and be to them a firm foundation on which to build their lives;
this we ask through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Give thanks for the Queen and pray for the UK leaders
(CMS prayer)

We give thanks for Queen Elizabeth II and her strong Christian faith. On 9th September 2015 she became Britain’s longest-reigning monarch, passing the record set by her great-great-grandmother Queen Victoria. By then she had reigned for 63 years and seven months, 23,226 days.
In her own words: “To many of us, our beliefs are of fundamental importance. For me the teachings of Christ and my own personal accountability before God provide a framework in which I try to lead my life.”

Pray also for the leaders of the United Kingdom, that they may be given wisdom and discernment for the responsibilities of office and the difficulties of decision-making.

Prayer for Refugees fleeing conflict in Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan.
(From USPG)

Lord God of wilderness, wave and wind,
you travel with the wanderers of the world.
Stay close, we pray, to all who live
with loss, in terror, and adrift,
and spur us on to build a world
where there is truly room for all.

Lord Jesus, you came among us
homeless, and as a refugee.
Shake our complacency,
rekindle our compassion,
and help us challenge our leaders
to forge a common strategy
that is both truly just, and fair.
